KJTH/Ponca City, OK... "89.7 The House" is now one of the first stations to launch HD Radio™ in Oklahoma.  The final phase of digital installation upgrades has been completed and the station began broadcasting with both traditional analog and HD Radio™ (100,000 watts & digital equivalent) signals as of Tuesday, December 21.  The sign-on took place during its 12th Anniversary Open House.  HD Radio™ makes FM radio sound more like a compact disc.   (12/22)

Salem Communications Corporation has made some changes in the Houston market launching "News/Talk 1070 KNTH-AM". Salem's long-time Christian Talk and Teaching station, KKHT-FM, moved from the AM band to a new dial position at 100.7-FM.

Chuck Jewell, KNTH and KKHT GM, commented on the new station and the addition of the new FM signal. "We're delighted to offer Houston our successful News/Talk programming bringing some of the most intelligent talk on air today. For our dedicated Christian Talk and Teaching listeners, we now are able to provide the same inspiring programming over a strong FM signal. It's returning KKHT-FM back to its original roots as an FM station serving the Houston metro area."

News/Talk 1070 KNTH-AM offers syndicated talk show hosts Bill Bennett (5-8 AM), Mike Gallagher (8-11AM), Dennis Prager (11AM-1PM), Dave Ramsey (1-3PM), Michael Medved (3-5PM), and Hugh Hewitt (5-8PM). In addition there will local news, weather and traffic throughout the day.

KKHT-FM 100.7 serves the Houston metro area with Bible teaching from national ministries. The addition of the new FM signal is the result of a previously announced multi-station, five-market exchange with Univision Communications, Inc.  (12/15)

WTJT/Baker Florida has recently added a live, call-in counseling talk show to its programming.  The show hosted by Lynn Miller of Trees of Healing Ministry in Destin airs Fridays at 12:30 PM .  (12/13)

WAYH/Huntsville (WAY FM) has just been awarded “The Crystal Award of Excellence” in The Communicator Awards audio competition for the writing and production of a 60-second spot entitled “Evangelism - Paul Hamm”.  This piece was created for The WAY-FM Media Group and was specifically designed to point listeners to the websites of the eleven WAY-FM owned and operated radio stations.  The “Award of Excellence” is presented to those in the industry ‘whose ability to communicate makes them the best in their field’.  The Communicator Awards is an annual audio competition that judged close to 1,000 entries this year from radio stations, production facilities, and ad agencies around the world. The Christian Hit Radio Satellite Network (CHRSN) has added a new affiliate, covering the Burlington VT/ Plattsburg, NY market.   WAVX (90.9FM) signed on the air November 23rd, airing CHRSN 24 hour a day. “We believe that CHRSN is the right network for us,” says WAVX General Manager Ric McClary.  “We are already getting lots of positive response from listeners!” Faron Dice, CHRSN Affiliate Manager for CHRSN, added, “This is an area that has never had a Christian CHR station before.  What an opportunity to introduce bands like Switchfoot, Audio Adrenaline, and Barlow Girl to a whole new audience!” CHRSN now airs on 51 frequencies. (12/8)On December 31, 2004, New Life Broadcasting, Inc. will end its relationship with WLGC-AM/Greenup/Ashland, KY. With the two-year arrangement coming to an end WLGC will discontinue broadcasting Christian music and programming. New Life Broadcasting, Inc. (headed by President Mic Marshall) is set to begin internet broadcasting in  2005 with Crosspointe Radio based in Ashland, KY.  (12/6) 

JC Power and Light, an Internet Only Christian Radio Station, has been appointed as a Moody Broadcasting Network affiliate station. JC Power and Light (JCPL) broadcasts Ministry programs only currently, but will change its format in January to include all types of Christian music including the Top 40 and older popular Christian hits.
JC Power and Light is owned by Barnabas Road Media who also owns, a streaming media hosting service for Christian radio stations and the Barnabas Road Internet Broadcasting Network that specializes in the live broadcasting of church worship services in North America.  (12/4)

Steve Williams joins WVFJ/Atlanta as the stations new Promotions Director. Steve comes from the PD post at WWXM/Myrtle Beach. WVFJ PD Don Schaeffer says "Steve is a brand manager, PD and promotion director all rolled into one, and he'll also handle NTR. He'll be great for this station, and I can't wait for him to get here."  (11/29)

Jennifer Walker has been elevated to MD/PM Drive at KSLT/Rapid City. Jennifer was previously the night personality at KSLT and before that spent time at . She takes the place of Joe Standish who will program KSLT's new upstart station launching in Spring 2005.   (11/22)

Changes at WQCK/Baton Rouge include PD/morning guy Dave McDaniel coming off the air effective Monday 11/22. In addition to PD of "The Bridge" Dave adds the duties of Master Control Supervisor for sister Baton Rouge TV stations PAX 14 and WLFT Channel 30. Beginning Monday WQCK Sales Manager Chip Bailey will join Sylvia Witherspoon on the morning show.  (11/19) 

Salem Hawaii is preparing to swap two of it's Honolulu AM radio stations for KGMZ FM, owned by Cox Radio. In the deal Salem will give up control of KHNR (AM 650) and KHCM (AM 940) by mid December, according to T.J. Malievsky, Salem vice president and general manager. At that time, KHCM's country-music format will be transferred to two other Salem stations -- KAIM (AM 870) and KJPN (AM 1170) -- because of listener demand. The KAIM AM signal is transmitted from Molokai and reaches Maui and East Oahu, while the AM 1170 signal is stronger over Leeward Oahu, Malievsky said.  (11/19)

As we expected, WZFS/Chicago ceased to exist as "106.7 The Fish" as of today 11/1. The station is now known as Spanish format Passion 106.7 under new owner Univision. Salem Media of Hawaii has made a series of management appointments. David Serrone moves from Sales Manager of Salem Media to the position of General Sales Manager for all radio stations within its Hawaii operation. David Kanyuck is promoted to Sales Manager overseeing 95.5 The Fish KAIM FM, AM 760 KGU, AM 940 KHCM, and Faith Talk Magazine. Chuck Crossno is promoted to Sales Manager overseeing 97.5 FM KHNR, 99.5 FM KHUI FM and the upcoming acquisition from Cox Radio of 107.9 FM KGMZ. Today Salem Communications announced that WMCA/New York will broadcast distinct, 24-hours of programming on 570 AM and 970 AM. Listeners can tune in to Christian Talk and Teach programming on each station, making WMCA the only 48-hour radio station in the country. Dave Armstrong, vice president and general manager of WMCA-AM 570 and 970, said, "WMCA has become so big that we are the only radio station on the planet that needs 48 hours a day to provide all the excellent programming that we want to offer our audience. Now the Good Guys can be heard at WMCA 570 and WMCA 970...24/7." Each station will offer distinct programs to its listening audience including: Dr. Laura, Focus on the Family, In Touch, Truth of Life, The Bible Answerman, New Life Live, and Kevin McCullough Live from New York, among others.  (1021)

Word out of Chicago is that "106.7 The Fish" will cease to exist in a few days. New owner Univision acquired WZFS in a swap deal with Salem says they will flip The Fish to Spanish November 1st. Meanwhile Salem will turn WIND/Chicago to newstalk.  (10/21)

New Christian station KJTH/Ponca City, OK.  "89.7 The House" hit the airwaves Tuesday, October 12 broadcasting at 100,000 watts from a new 1,000-foot tower. Meanwhile sister station K L V V switched to a new format calling itself “Praise 88.7” with inspirational music and teaching programs Wednesday, October 13 at noon. The GMA entry deadline for Radio Station of The Year contest is January 1st, 2005. Eligible stations must play music for at least 50 percent of their broadcast day. Salem Communications announced today a radio station exchange with Univision Communications Inc. Salem is exchanging two radio stations, WZFS-FM (The Fish 106.7 FM) in Des Plaines, IL (Chicago market), and KSFB-FM (The Bridge 100.7 FM) in San Raphael, CA (San Francisco market), for four radio stations, WIND-AM (560 AM) in Chicago, IL, KOBT-FM (100.7 FM) in Winnie, TX (Houston market), KHCK-AM (1480 AM) in Dallas, TX, and KOSL-FM (94.3 FM) in Jackson, CA (Sacramento market). This transaction, which is subject to required regulatory approvals and other closing conditions, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2005.

Edward G. Atsinger III, president and CEO of Salem Communications, commented, "This station swap presents a unique opportunity for Salem to expand our presence in four very attractive major markets. We now can bring our syndicated News/Talk format into both Chicago and Houston, which are ideal markets for this format. In addition, we will further improve our clusters in Dallas and Sacramento."
