CR20, a Christian Rock Top 20 Countdown, is set to debut this week. CR20 will make its debut on three radio stations airing around the country, with more stations coming on board later in January. Charter radio stations include Radio Eternal, Bigloo Radio, Radical Psalms, and High Desert Christian Rock all will begin airing CR20 in January.  Log onto for information and hear a demo. 99.1 WAWZ / Zarephath, NJ, serving the greater New York City, New Jersey, and Eastern Pennsylvania metropolitan regions, has modified it's format from inspirational to CCM calling itself "Today's Christian Music". The station says it is building a positive new sound of 99.1 and promoting a "40 days and 40 nights" preview of what listeners can expect this February. Listen on line by going here. (12/27)

Flicker Records’ newest band The Swift are releasing their debut self-titled project just in time for Christmas with their album dropping in stores Christmas Eve. The Swift was invited by Audio Adrenaline and Mercy Me to join them as special guests on the spring 2003 “Go Show” tour. 

The Swift members have kept themselves more than busy these past couple of months gearing up for their album release.  The band recently completed a two-week radio promo tour where they visited with top AC and CHR reporting stations to support their radio singles “Under the Sun,” (CHR) and “More than Gold,” (AC).  The band was recently invited to play on LeSea Broadcasting’s “Live from Studio B”, where they performed five songs in front of a live studio audience. The show is slated to air world-wide on January 2nd. The Swift will also be featured in several media outlets including: CCM Magazine, Brio, Breakaway, Campus Life, Plugged-In Magazine,, and to name a few. As announced in the December 13th issue of R&R Magazine, Uprok claimed the #1 spot in the Christian Rhythmic Label Share category with a 19.7%. Of the top 25 songs of the year, 6 were from Uprok artists. (12/20)

Salem Communications announced that it has closed on the acquisition of WRLG-FM and WYYB-FM, in Nashville, Tennessee, for $5.6 million from Tuned In Broadcasting Inc. The company has been operating the stations under a Local Marketing Agreement since August 5, 2002. Salem also owns and operates WBOZ-FM and WVRY-FM, both programmed in a Southern Gospel format, in the Nashville market. (12/20)


Radio & Records magazine, one of the music industry’s premier trade publications, recently named Essential Records its Overall Label of the Year. The distinction is awarded annually to the label receiving the most total spins. R & R began charting Christian music in 2001, and this is the first time the honor has been extended to any Christian label. The announcement is published in the Dec. 13 issue. During the year Essential released 24 singles from seven artists, including No. 1 radio hits by Caedmon’s Call ("Before There Was Time"), FFH ("Before It Was Said," "Watching Over Me" and "On My Cross"), Jars of Clay ("I Need You" and "Fly"), Paul Colman Trio ("Turn") and Third Day ("Show Me Your Glory," "Come Together" and "It’s Alright"). From Educational Media Foundation's (KLOVE and AIR1) Bob Anthony has exited the network to pursue opportunities with Gospel Spots, an evangelistic media ministry that he started over 4 years ago. Gospel Spoys,, puts Gospel messages up on billboards, up on movie screens, and on mainstream TV and radio. Salem Communications has announced that it is on track to meet its fourth-quarter targets for broadcast revenue and earnings. For stations owned longer than one year, the company anticipates revenue growth of approximately 15 percent, and is predicting that net broadcast revenue will fall in a range of $40 million to $40.5 million, compared with $36.1 million a year ago. Q4 earnings are expected to be in a range of 5 cents to 6 cents a share, compared with 4 cents a year ago, while free cash flow should be 25 cents to 27 cents a share. Get complete story here.
