Started in radio at
WYLV when I was 19 in 1997 as an intern doing the usual things
an intern does. In 1999, I was promoted to Music Director and in
2001 promoted to the Program director Position. It has been an
amazing ride so far, and I am so thankful for the responsibility
God has given to me. I love encouraging others to turn to
Christ, what an awesome job...
1. How did God put you in His service at WYLV?
It all came through an internship. I had to do one through The
University of Tennessee, and I really
wanted to graduate, so of course I did it. Through hard work
and God's favor I have been blessed to move up to Program
director of WYLV in the last 5 years.
2. What is the most fulfilling aspect to you personally
about Christian radio?
I can encourage others and be myself when I am on the air. I
try to be the same person I am on the air as I am in real life.
What you see is what you get. I
enjoy friendships with listeners. Yes, I call them my friends.
Playing great music, and sharing the love of Christ is
amazing...
3.How has God used you in your role at WYLV?
It's a wonderful feeling to know that I am being used by God at
Love 89. My heart is ministry. I am a pastor's kid, so I have
been around it my whole life.
The world will not encourage you or help you for anything. It's
always a "take and take some more"
relationship with the world, but I am able to show love and
concern for my listeners everyday, and offer the hope that a
relationship with Christ brings.
4. What is the typical day like in the life of a Christian
radio programmer?
Lots of paperwork, meetings, music and more meetings. Oh, gotta
throw those phone calls in there as well. It definitely goes by
fast, but well worth it.
5. Do the same basic programming principles and basics
apply to CCM radio as secular? P
They should. I encourage my staff to be real and relevant to
the listener. Use real world happenings
and situations. Christians are "in" the world. We experience
the same things as anyone else, but we have
the opportunity to add the hope of getting through those
experiences through our music and talk segments.
6. When searching for new CCM radio on air talent what do
you look for?
Someone who has a calling on their life. It's not just a job,
but something they feel led to pursue and
be in. Personality always helps!!!! Be entertaining, but not
stupid, enjoy what you do, and know that you are helping people
with everything you say.
7. Why soemone want to join your team at WYLV?
We are a family...that's it. We love each other
unconditionally. We pray for each other, and are
genuinely close. We know why we are doing what we are doing.
We have fun sharing Christ...isn't that the way it should be?
8. What in your opinion is the primary role of the
Christian radio air personailty today?
Encourage and Entertain. If you can mix those two things, you
have my attention and I am open to what you have to say. I
become your friend.
9. What (if any) other Christian radio stations do you
consider as inovators today?
definitely WAY-FM, Nashville in the CHR format. RadioU in
Columbus, they are taking the mainstream approach many Christian
stations have trouble with, and it's working!
10. Where do you see Christian radio in 5
years?
With the growth fo Christian music, I see it
only
getting better. Mainstream acceptance has taken a while, but we
are now at the place where recognition is there in the
marketplace. We don't have to worry
about not having success in the future. God's got our back,
what we're doing is for Him, and He will bless it! I see
Christian stations becoming major players in every market in the
US and around the world.
