| "Corn and Radio"
-By Dave St John/KZZQ
Every morning, I drive through cornfields to get to the radio
studios. Though it's out of touch with most people's traffic issues,
6 lanes of interstate, etc. it gives me time to think about what you
and I do everyday.
There are many similarities corn and successful radio have:
-Corn has a narrow point on top to push through the soil. It only
begins to spread wider once it's achieved it's goal of getting
sufficiently above the soil to grow.
-Corn takes the path of least resistance. If there's a rock in
the way, it doesn't try to split the rock, it just goes around it:
but that didn't change the destination of the corn.
-Corn always stays narrow at ground level to keep pushing through
the soil. The roots spread, but you never see that. It blossoms,
leaves grow out where the stalk is established...but it's purpose
and intent never changes.
-Bugs are one of the biggest deterrents to good corn. They're
small, annoying, and slowly eat away at the health of the corn.
-Corn sure produces some pretty good ears.
