Good news for
Christian music retailers. R&R reports
Calendar-year sales for Christian music reached 30 million
during the week ending Aug.18...earlier than ever before. CD
sales are up 27% over 2001, and CD singles are up a
substantial 25%. While the mainstream music market has plunged
by about 10%, Christian is up 17% overall from 2001, making it
one of only two music formats to experience an upswing in

"Love 89.1 FM" / Knoxville hosted the first ever "Days of
Praise", a 3 Day Christian Music Festival in Dollywood (Pigeon
Forge TN). It was a resounding success with 12 bands on 5
stages August 16-18th. Attendees stayed through 2
thunderstorms on Friday and 4 on Saturday to fill each and
every stage and theater as well as Sunday. Bands and artists
attending: Audio A, Rebecca St.James, Avalon, The Benjamin
Gate, Skillet, Solomons Wish, Russ Lee, Anointed, Joy

The
newly formed Christian Music Broadcasters is hosting a
meet-and-greet dessert buffet during the NAB Radio Show in
Seattle. The event will be held in the Soundview Room at the
Seattle Hilton near the convention center on Friday evening,
September 13, at 7:30 p.m.This will be an opportunity to
meet members of Christian Music Broadcasters and to build
relationships with Christians in mainstream radio. Radio
Ink publisher Eric Rhoads will be a special guest,
discussing trends in radio and our culture that will help both
ministry and mainstream radio communicate more effectively.Christian
Music Broadcasters has produced the National Christian Radio
Seminars (NCRS) during the Gospel Music Association convention
in Nashville each April. CMB recently incorporated as a
separate entity from GMA, believing there should be an
organization focused exclusively on Christian radio. CMB will
continue to work with GMA, but will also produce the Radio
Boot Camp at NRB in February, and is committed to working in
partnership with GMA, NRB, RAB and NAB. (8/19)
WAY-FM
partnered with World Servants on a Mission Trip to Ecuador
August 2 through 11, 2002. Eighty Listeners joined WAY-FM
staff from Nashville, TN; West Palm Beach, FL; and Colorado
Springs, CO, as well as Rocketown recording artist Shaun
Groves to touch the lives of the people of Otovalo, Ecuador.
The team worked on constructing an addition to a Christian
School while they were there. In addition, they helped paint
a medical facility, painted murals on a wall at the school and
held Vacation Bible School for children in the community.

KSBJ / Houston Summer of Love took 100 listeners to the
Dominican Republic this year. The trip was a huge success from
many standpoints. New relationships were forged, two churches
were built, a Christian school has roughly 100 new desk chairs
and over 60 gave their hearts to Jesus. Missionaries will be
reuniting tonight at the Enter His Gates Concert and will also
be our unofficial ministry spotlight for the concert. (8/16)

WAY-FM in South Florida welcomed back a group of 80 listeners
who went on a mission trip to Ecuador to construct an addition
to the school in Otavalo that was built during a previous
WAY-FM mission trip four years ago. WAY-FM’s ‘Theresa and
Wayne in the Morning’ were able to visit with people on
the air who went on the WAY-FM mission trip to Ecuador and
hear from them how it was more than just a trip, it changed
their lives.

of the year. 89Q Music and Promotions Director Scott

with the Purple Door Festival to provide live audio
streaming of the event. Purple Door, the premier

Local churches & 88.1 WLGH The Light / Lansing will collect
20,000+ pounds of clothes for the country of Ukraine. The
Light will be collecting gently used clothing and shoes at
four locations on September 6th
and 7th. Last year's clothing drive for Ukraine brought in
more than 23,000 pounds of clothes and more than 40 boxes of
shoes. With more churches on board this year, bigger results
are anticipated. In today's Ukraine, the average wage is less
than $50 per month. The average person has two changes of
clothes andone pair of shoes. Items to be collected will
include clothes, purses, shoes, and belts thanks to WLGH PD
