Wayne is gearing up for the Indianapolis 500. WBCL is
conducting a promotion that involves an enormous amount of
cars—Matchbox Cars, that is. During the month of May, men will be
able to sign up on the WBCL website for a chance to win 4 tickets to
the Indianapolis 500. Kelley Automotive Group of Fort Wayne has
donated hundreds of Matchbox Cars for this contest. To
enter, men will need to guess how many cars are actually in the
trunk of a car. The winner will receive the tickets, with a personal
visit from the WBCL Race Team, Scott Tsuleff, Ken Church and Jill
Johnston, on May 20th. But there’s more to this
giveaway. Once the tickets have been delivered and the winner is
off to the races, WBCL and Kelley Automotive Group will donate the
cars to Lutheran Hospital Pediatrics of Fort Wayne, IN. Those
Matchbox Cars will brighten little faces that are fighting a race of a
different kind. (4/29)

successful at finding local churches, youth groups or counseling
services to sponsor it. Others are running it as a ministry,
non-sponsored filler, or as a public service. Stations can register

Great
Plains Christian Radio CEO Don Hughes
wants to make fellow Kansas Christian radio broadcasters aware of
the following.
In the past the Kansas Department of
Revenue has exempted NCE radio stations from state sales
tax. However, just recently the Kansas Department of Revenue has
ruled that this applies only to state funded public broadcasting
stations even though this is not what the law says. I consulted our
attorney and he said according the the way the statute is written we
should be exempt. However the Kansas Department of Revenue has been
revoking this tax exemption. I contacted State Senator Tim
Huelskamp who has now entered an amendment to HB 2641 which would
clarify the issue and halt the actions of the Kansas Department of
Revenue. The provision has passed the Senate, but needs to be
approved by the House and the Governor. This amendment is part of a
fifty-eight page document so hopefully legislators and the governor
will just let it pass. NCE Christian stations in Kansas should
contact their elected representative. (3/25)

Family
Life Network (FLN) is the first radio broadcaster (according to
a press release) in the country to localize its radio programming
with a new IP over satellite delivery system. The network localized
weather reports and sponsor messages and is currently in the process
of localizing newscasts and traffic updates as well. The new system
was installed at all 12 of FLN’s radio towers, and divides the
network’s listenership into seven regions across New York and
Pennsylvania. “As a radio broadcaster covering a large geographical
area, we want to be as effective as possible,” said Rick Snavely,
president of Family Life Network. “This means addressing more
things locally. We now deliver more unique and meaningful
information to the areas we reach, ultimately making better use of
our listeners’ time.” Satellite-delivered content from a central
studio expands Family Life’s programming reach, and saves real
estate costs and operational expenses such as insurance and
utilities, plus other expenses associated with maintaining separate
studios.
“There are
a couple major broadcasters in the country using satellite Internet
for split programming, but we’ve worked with tech providers to
create a system that’s much more affordable, added Snavely.” Similar
to satellite TV, satellite-powered Internet is a relatively new way
to transmit audio data between satellite towers. The system is
known for delivering fast and reliable high-speed Internet to
satellites in isolated areas—a unique selling point for Family Life
Network. But up until now, the technology was never
affordable. Family Life Network can now be heard on 65 outlets.

The
65th annual NRB Convention has come to an end in
Nashville where over 6,000 attendees listened to the NRB President call
all Christian broadcasters to protect their freedom to present God's
message.
There is a cultural
hostility against preaching the word of God that is overflowing to
legislation, said Frank Wright, president and CEO of National Religious
Broadcasters. "We must be one in Christ to face the days ahead," he told
a crowd. Wright explained that under hate crimes legislation, which was
successfully blocked from the 2008 Defense Authorization Bill last year,
religious broadcasters would be liable for criminal acts even though
they are the indirect cause of someone's mental or emotional anguish.
Programming that discusses someone's sexuality would be one of many
targets, he noted. Nevertheless, Wright called upon religious
broadcasters to continue to boldly preach "Christ and him crucified" to
the world. On Tuesday morning, President George W. Bush made an
in-person appearance at the convention to address the global war on
terror. This year, the event is being held at the Gaylord Opryland
Resort and Convention Center – the site for the convention for the next
two years.

In
a recent one-day fundraiser,
K-LOVE
listeners donated over $300,000 to International Cooperating Ministries,
to build 24 new churches in mainland China. “Our listeners respond so
well to requests to help ministries like ICM. Their organization is
structured in such a way that their operating expenses are covered by an
endowment. This allows 100% the funds raised to go directly to the field
project. That’s incredible,” said David Pierce, VP of Programming. “And,
on top of that, their pay-it-forward practices with the churches they
build, allow for even more development in the area, as completed church
members provide labor and materials for the next new church. ICM is an
awesome ministry, and K-LOVE and our listeners love to partner with
them.” (3/3)

Next
month, Bible League will begin its four-month long radio
campaign entitled Don’t Make Them Wait— in an effort to provide
Bibles to those who so desperately need and desire them. With this
year’s radio campaign, the ministry will encourage donors to provide
more than 87,000 Bibles to Christians in China. “There is a
tremendous, on-going need for Bible’s in China. As the body of
Christ continues to grow significantly, God’s Word is needed to
empower, encourage, and help believers to develop spiritually,” says
Mike Southworth, Bible League’s executive vice president of
ministry. It’s estimated that in most rural areas in China there is
only one Bible for every 100 Christians. Christian radio stations
and networks across the country will once again partner with Bible
League in the campaign, including: American Family Radio (AFR), WAWZ/New
York, WRBS/Baltimore, WCSG/Grand Rapids, KWVE/Los Angeles, and KGNW/Seattle.
The radio campaign will begin March 1, 2008 and run through June 30,
2008. For more information about the Don’t Make Them Wait radio
campaign or Bible League’s ministry, call toll-free at 866-825-4636,
