New Life Media stations WBGL/Champaign and WCIC/Peoria sent staff and almost 50 of their listeners to Honduras for a 10 day mission trip. WBGL and WCIC teamed up with the missions organization, Missions.Me with the goal of sharing the gospel with the entire nation of Honduras. A video for the movement called 1Nation1Day explains the vision and plan.

Asking the question "Can a Nation be Saved in a Day" Isaiah 66:8  Missions.Me recruited the largest missions team in history and worked with the government, every school, church and media outlet in Honduras. On July 20th that question was answered as Millions gathered at their state capitals to commit their lives to the New Honduras and to Jesus! This video gives you a glimpse of what July 20th looked like.

During the trip over 100,000 pairs of new shoes were distributed, over 3 million meals served, and gave away millions of dollars in medical treatment and supplies. Then 30,000 pastors and local churches were equipped during a one day training to continue to reach their surround communities. Also the gospel was shared with every student in every school in the nation thru dramas and testimonies. And on July 20th they all Celebrated Honduras' newest national holiday with 18 large Festivals of Hope featuring guest speakers like John Bevere, Tommy Barnett and music from Kari Jobe.

In a release today, National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) says it strongly opposes performance tax legislation. The NRB expressed concern with an announcement by Rep. Mel Watt (D-NC) that he intends to introduce performance tax legislation that would place a new and unwarranted burden on many Christian radio broadcasters.  “Performance tax legislation would be a crushing blow to many Christian radio stations,” asserted Dr. Frank Wright, President & CEO of NRB. “Moreover, I respectfully suggest to Rep. Watt that such legislation is fundamentally flawed as it rests on the faulty premise that all the value in radio airplay of music flows to broadcasters – an assumption refuted by reason and experience.”

Musicians receive free airplay by radio, boosting recognition and sales of their work. However, advertisers, sponsors, and program syndicators pay for placement on radio because of the substantive benefits they receive from over-the-air (OTA) carriage. The demonstrable value of radio airtime is ignored by many advocates of a new OTA performance tax.  Dr. Wright continued, “NRB would welcome a more coordinated collaboration with Christian music artists in order to both preserve Christian radio and to benefit the music of those artists.”

NRB supports a bipartisan bill, the Local Radio Freedom Act, sponsored by Rep. Michael Conaway (R-TX) and Rep. Gene Green (D-TX) in the House and Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) in the Senate. The bill (H.Con.Res.16/S.Con.Res.6) opposes “any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge relating to the public performance of sound recordings on a local radio station for broadcasting sound recordings over-the-air, or on any business for such public performance of sound recordings,” and it has attracted the support of 143 Representatives and 11 Senators thus far.  (7/26)

The Salem Radio Network (SRN) announced a month-long, multi-platform initiative in August designed to highlight the battle over America’s culture wars: SRN’s nationally syndicated talk hosts—as well as the network’s 24/7 Washington, D.C.-based SRN News service—will all focus interviews and special features on the current challengers to traditional American values.  “The recent Supreme Court rulings on so-called Gay Marriage are merely the latest in a string of disturbing trends,” says Tom Tradup, Vice President/News & Talk Programming at SRN. “Government seems unable to respond to alarming cultural developments, and our courts are increasingly thwarting the will of voters …especially parents. SRN hopes to highlight the challenges facing America, and to provide solid, actionable ways men and women can stand up to the cultural backwash.”

SRN News will offer a multi-part series drawing on groups like the Traditional Values Coalition, Parents Television Council, as well as groups such as Alliance Defending Freedom, Morality in Media and others. SRN will also feature online polls giving listeners the opportunity to voice their opinions on issues such as protecting the Second Amendment, Gay Marriage, the influence of teachers unions on public education and a variety of other topics. Barry and Linda Armstrong announce they are retiring from Spirit FM located in Lynchburg, the ministry they co-founded in 1994. Linda’s last day on-the-air as co-host of the Spirit FM Morning Show with Michael Brown will be Friday, July 12th. The couple’s last official day of service to the radio ministry will be July 31st. "We watched God build something from nothing," Barry Armstrong, who has served as the ministry’s general manager, said. "Thanks to our many friends and supporters, the station is financially stable. There is a godly leadership team in place with a fresh vision. They are fully capable of taking Spirit FM to the next level."

Linda Armstrong said she will really miss her on-air role and that she and Barry will miss the close connection with Spirit FM listeners. "This has been the greatest time of my life in so many ways," she added. "But, I am a grandmother with another grandchild on the way. I look forward to having more free time to enjoy my family."  Spirit FM is completing a nationwide search for a new morning show co-host, and will name someone to fill Linda’s position in a few weeks, according to Station Manager Marc Tischart.  For the first 11 years, Barry and Linda co-hosted the Spirit FM morning show. Barry stepped off the mornings in 2005 to concentrate on his duties as General Manager.  "We really thought both of us being on the air would be temporary, until we could afford to pay a real staff! Who knew I would be on the air for another 19 years? But it never really felt like a job. I was just hanging out with friends," Linda said.

In 2002, Spirit FM became part of Positive Alternative Radio, a group of stations founded by Vernon and Virginia Baker, and how headed up by Eddie Baker, its President.  "We both ran Christian stations serving the same communities in the early years," Barry explained. "By coming together, we were able to eliminate duplication of efforts, combine our strengths, grow stronger and better serve our listeners."

"The legacy of Barry and Linda Armstrong will have impact for years to come," Baker said. "Their passion and commitment are unequaled. They leave us with strong operations and management team in place, as well as a very supportive listening family."  Listeners can enjoy a look back at almost two decades of broadcasting next week during the Spirit FM Morning Show, Tischart said. In addition, a station open house is planned for Wednesday, July 17th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To RSVP, contact the station at (800) 774-9798.   (7/5)

From KGCB/Prescott (Radio Shine Station Manager Sally Barton: Radio Shine broadcasts to the communities of central and northern Arizona – our station is located in Prescott.  Our hearts are broken with the loss of our 19 young Granite Mountain Hotshot firefighters of Prescott. Their loss resonates through our community, out state, our nation, we are mourning and praying with the families; the loved ones who have lost a husband, a daddy, a son, a grandson, a fellow firefighter, a friend.  Please join us in praying for those who continue, with heroic strength to lay their lives on the line, battling the fire, that our precious Lord will provide His cloak of protection and guidance.

Through our prayers, we know the all-abiding peace and hope in our Lord.   Please join with us praying those who have lost their loved one will know the comfort and healing only God can provide in such a devastating tragedy.  We look up in hope.  God IS sovereign and His message resounds through the homes that cry out for His comfort, His healing.  He is faithful in bringing comfort and peace through the deepest valleys.

We turn to Psalms 91: 1 & 2: He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” I write to ask for your prayers for our community and for the Radio Shine team as we bring hope and healing to our listening communities.  Thank you.  (7/2)

From the where are they now department: Former WCFJ/Dayton PD/personality Bill Nance and his former co-host Melody Morris took a step of faith and became part of a new venture in internet radio. They had a vision of sharing the Gospel through the format of Christian radio, broadcasting solely over the internet. The idea was to have a "local" ministry, but one that could reach around the world. Together they helped launch Faith and Family Radio.

“It’s Internet radio done right.” says co-founder Melody Morris. “Most streaming sounds like a juke box but our Lord taught us to be relational in His time here on earth. He personally ministered among the people.” Morris says while the trend in radio is to voice track and automate, Faith and Friends is intentional about broadcasting their morning show “New Day with Bill & Melody” live and interactive. They also focus much of their time in the community, oftentimes broadcasting live on-location at various times of the day, utilizing state-of-the-art technology.

“Listening habits have changed,” says Nance. In a highly mobile society, people often drive out of the signal range of terrestrial radio, but not so with Faith and Friends. “People can now listen through a variety of technologies right from their car, their bedside Internet radio alarm clock, their home stereo system, their smart phone and more. Even oceans can’t separate us from streaming to others. The time to bring the Good News to the world via this technology is now and at a fraction of the cost.”

Bill has served in Christian radio for 22 years as a Program Director and morning show host. Melody Morris has 17 years experience in radio and television. Here's a link to the website, where you can listen to the broadcasts 24/7: https://faithandfriendsradio.com/  (6/19)

Under the direction of David Harms and Lisa Williams of i58:10 Media led Barefoot Media Ministries 89.5 KTSY/Boise to it's greatest Spring Drive ever. After being on reduced power for 2 months due to antenna issues, being off the air on their translator station in Baker City, Oregon, being in transition in the development department so pre-match money was about 50% of what they had raised last year. This year KTSY took a new direction with their spring pledge drive. Rather than a fund raiser it was a celebration of God's power and His impact in people's lives. The financial goal was never talked about; no incentives were used. President / General Manager says, "It was a scary transition. We were turning our regular practice on their head. Instead of telling God what our goal was, we let Him give us what we needed. He poured out blessings beyond what we could have imagined. Last year we ended with a total of $188,469; this year we ended at $202, 611 – an all time record. Thanks to David and his team for helping us blaze our new trail and all glory goes to God for honoring putting Him first."  (5/3)
