Christian
Music Broadcasters (CMB) has announced the establishment of the
*Rich Mullins Artist Impact Award.* The award will be presented
to an artist or group to recognize their long-time contributions
to the music and ministry of Christian Radio. In establishing
the award, CMB felt that honoring Rich Mullins was only natural
as his influence continues to be felt years after his death.
Mullins died tragically in an automobile accident just outside
of Bloomington, IL in 1997.
Similar to
the *Scott Campbell Industry Achievement Award* and the *Rob
Gregory Community Service Award*, artists may be nominated for
the *Rich Mullins Artist Impact Award* by any CMB member - with
the winner being chosen by a select panel of voters. The *Rich
Mullins Artist Impact Award, *along with the other special
awards and the *2012 Christian Music Broadcasters Radio Station
Of The Year Awards, *will be presented during *Momentum 2012* in
Orlando, Florida. (4/27)
WCIC/Peoria
and McDonald’s teamed up to present Concert for Kids, featuring
Word artist Sidewalk Prophets. More than 750 people attended the
benefit show. Concert for Kids was a fundraiser for the Peoria
Public Schools Foundation's Beacon Project, designed to provide
up-to-date technology for District 150 schools. With tickets
sold, items purchased at a silent auction the night of the show,
and additional donations, the event drew more than $6,500 in
support of District 150 and the Beacon Project. These funds will
be used specifically to help with the purchase of an iPad cart
for the sixth graders at Rolling Acres Middle School. Thirty
iPads will be used for improved learning and in an after-school
computer lab.(4/26)

KTSY/Boise
and KTFY/Twin Falls Director of Radio Chris Gilbreth checks in
with HisAir.Net. Chris says both stations’ spring pledge drives
went over goal. Last week KTSY’s pledge drive went over the goal
of $175,000 by about $11,000 with the overflow going to help
replace the 22 year old roof on the station. This week KTFY
wrapped up spring pledge drive in Twin Falls, also over by about
$11,000, which will help add a new part time community impact
member to the staff. “This was a finish for the history books,”
says Gilbreth. “We were already saying our final thank-you on
the air and getting ready to pray when a volunteer whispered in
our ear that another $1,000 match was on the phone. After a
flurry of calls, we said another round of thanks, sang some live
worship music on the air led by our morning guy Robert Forbes
and brought it to a close.” General Manager Brian Yeager says
“both stations reached record amounts for a spring event in our
station history, and KTFY raised nearly double what was raised
last spring.” (4/20

PD Ryan Springer checks in with HisAir.Net and a testimony
regarding their Sharathon. Ryan says "We just ended our annual
Sharathon at 9:20 this morning, 40 minutes early... going up and
over our biggest goal in history ($540,000) by $11,000... and
with the fewest amount of gifts given (1,840) since 2006... and
with zero giveaways or thank you gifts. We ended at $551,000,
and the largest average gift size that I'm aware of in station
history, at $299.46. (Normal average is around $220 to $230).
Just amazing."
Ryan continues "At one point our Axia on-air board locked up,
first time it's ever done that in the 2 years we've had it, and
we weren't able to turn on the mics for about 45 minutes. Within
minutes, the volunteers came out and placed their hands on the
studio and prayed (pictured below). It was more than a moment.
It was a show of love for this ministry that is uncommon in this
world. It's a display of passion that only comes from God. It's
a passion that only God's people understand. (BTW: the phones
kept ringing for those 45 minutes or so and $4,300 came in). I
turned around and got goose bumps when I saw them standing
there. It was a neat moment." (4/13)
At
KSBJ/Houston this morning Coppelia and Joey K were heard saying

KSBJ says the next big announcement is Fri April 20 at
7:45am.... Coppelia and Joey K move to afternoon starting
May 7th... We'll keep you posted. (4/13)

Director died from a heart attack. He was 58 years old. We

friend. Jeff had one of the greatest sense of humor and always

Family
Radio founder Harold Camping issued an apology
to listeners, admitting that he was wrong. "We
have learned the very painful lesson that all of
creation is in God's hands and He will end time
in His time, not ours!" a statement on Family
Radio's website reads. "We humbly recognize that
God may not tell His people the date when Christ
will return, any more than He tells anyone the
date they will die physically." Camping,
90, has made predictions about Judgment Day,
with the May 21, 2011 date receiving the most
media attention. Each time the date passed, he
did not admit to mistaking the timing but
instead reasoned that the events happened
"spiritually" rather than physically.
"Even the most sincere and zealous of us can be
mistaken," Camping and Family Radio staff stated
in their March letter. "We realize that many
people are hoping they will know the date of
Christ's return. In fact for a time Family Radio
fell into that kind of thinking.
"But we now realize that those people who were
calling our attention to the Bible's statement
that 'of that day and hour knoweth no man'
(Matthew 24:36 & Mark 13:32), were right in
their understanding of those verses and Family
Radio was wrong. Whether God will ever give us
any indication of the date of His return is
hidden in God's divine plan." (3/6)

A
documentary film about the death of AFR morning co-host J.J.
Jasper's son is a semi-finalist in the San Antonio Independent
Christian Film Festival. In July 2009, Jasper's five-year-old
son, Cooper, went home to be with the Lord after a dune buggy
accident. Just a few months later, JJ and his wife, Melanie,
agreed to let the American Family Association do a documentary
about his family's struggle with the loss of their son. Flame
On, named for Cooper's last words, was the result. "It's a
bigger story of hope on the other side of tragedy," Jasper
shares. "We are a living testimony about God's mercy and grace,
and it's true -- His grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9).
The Lord can help you make it through any trial or tribulation,
no matter how difficult." Over 50,000 copies of Flame On
have been distributed at no cost, and it has been viewed more
than 100,000 times online. In response, people are sharing their
testimonies of how the film has helped them accomplish closure
through Christ after similar losses. Flame On is a semi-finalist
at this year's competition.
Jasper also worked with the
producers and crew of Courageous, as several scenes in that
movie are based off his family's experience. Courageous is a
semi-finalist in the feature film category at the festival. The
winners will be announced Saturday night. Jasper is in San
Antonio for the film festival. (2/24)

Save
the City Records, has hired Christian music industry veteran
Chris Chicago (left) as Head of National Promotion.
Chicago, founder of Shamrock Media, has left his position as an

represent Save the City Records full-time to national radio,
overseeing promotion for Save the City artists, including
Benjiman, Brandon Bee, Byron "Mr. Talkbox" Chambers, Circleslide,
Kimber Rising, Jekob and The Washington Projects.
"We chose Chris Chicago to exclusively represent Save the City
Records because of his reputation of solid promotion in
Christian music, with a proven track record of delivering hits,"
says Derek Hoiem, president of Save the City Records, "Chris
understands our vision for the label and already has been
articulating it to stations across the country." Chicago
also hosts "HYPE Radio with Chris Chicago," the No. 1 syndicated
Christian hip hop show, heard in more than 125 markets

core values and beliefs, so getting a chance to work with Derek
Hoiem and do ground-up ministry with him was something I
couldn't pass up," says Chicago. "I have met only a handful of
people in my life with the heart and passion that Derek has and
I knew I had to work alongside him."
"Save the City Records selects artists who are 'the real deal'
in their musical talent, in what they preach, and how they
live," continues Chicago. "Those are the kinds of artists I want

WAY
Media, Inc. announced today it will purchase WSRX/Naples (89.5FM) from Family Christian
Broadcast Network. In turn nonprofit listener-supported public
radio organization Classical South Florida will acquire WAYJ
/Fort Myers (88.7FM) from WAY Media. WAY-FM programming
will move to WSRX.
“We are
basically doing a frequency swap in Southwest Florida and we are
excited about continuing our 24 year outreach in the Fort
Myers/Naples area. This is where WAY-FM began in 1987 and we
anticipate making an even greater impact in the years ahead.
Since WSRX does not cover Charlotte County well, WAYMedia has
made arrangements to cover that portion of Southwest Florida
with a new 250 watt translator on 100.5 FM”. The WAYJ call
letters will be moved to 89.5.
Augsburg
continued, “Some of the excess funds we will realize in this
transaction will be earmarked towards many new digital
strategies which were unveiled recently in WAYMedia’s new 2020
Vision”. The sale requires approval by the Federal
Communications Commission.
WAY-FM/Fort
Myers general manager Jeff Taylor also commented,
“This is a very
exciting time for the original WAY-FM in Southwest Florida. Not
only will our move from 88.7 to 89.5/100.5 enable us to serve
the entire region just as we always have, but proceeds from the
sale of WAYJ will enable us to help fund the initial stages of
WAY-FM’s Digital Media initiative. Our ministry just got
stronger!”
The acquisitions
require approval by the Federal Communications Commission, and
program changes likely will not take place before spring.

WKTO/Edgewater,
FL is celebrating the completion of a new
410-foot broadcast tower giving the 25,000-watt
station the potential to reach 1.4 million
listeners. "This is a great move forward in the
history of WKTO," said Carol Henry , WKTO GM.
Henry said the expansion, including the cost of
acquiring land, permitting and construction,
cost about $300,000. The site where the
station's former tower was located was sold five
years ago and the new owner demanded the tower
be removed, according to Henry. To keep the
station on the air, WKTO officials negotiated a
lease agreement with the owner of a nearby cell
tower at the rate of $2,200 a month while they
looked for another site. (1/6)
