reported on HisAir.Net Blue Ridge Broadcasting,
Inc. (BRB) of Asheville, N.C., has entered an
agreement with South Central Communications
Corporation of Evansville, Ind., to acquire WRJK/Norris,
Tenn., (Knoxville maket) pending approval
of the Federal Communications Commission.
The purchase price is $625,000 cash. This
transaction marks BRB’s first radio acquisition
in 48 years. BRB was founded in 1962 by Billy
Graham and his wife, Ruth. BRB’s flagship
station
WMIT/Black Mountain, N.C
(106.9 The Light) was purchased in 1963 and
currently has the 12th largest FM coverage area
in the U.S., including parts of eastern
Tennessee.
Executive director of BRB Jim Kirkland says “Knoxville is a city for which the Graham association has long carried warm regards.” Both Billy Graham and his son Franklin held well-received events in the city. Mr. Graham led a 1970 crusade at the University of Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium. In 2008, Franklin Graham hosted a similar event at UT’s Thompson-Boling Arena.
Seller South Central Communications owns and/or operates four other stations in the Knoxville area: WIMZ, WJXB, WNFZ and WQJK. The corporation also has radio stations in Nashville, Tenn., and Evansville, Ind. WRJK-FM broadcasts on 106.7 MHz with a power of 1.1 kW. Its antenna sits 751 feet above average terrain in northern Knox County. (12/30)

Grand
Bahama's first gospel radio station, Dove
103.7FM, went on the air yesterday. "We are here
24 hours, seven days a week, whether it will be
automated or live in person," said Music
Director Yolanda Hanna. When asked why it was
necessary to open a Christian radio station now,
she pointed out that there is no time like the
present as people are looking for hope and
something new. "People who I didn't even expect
would be listening to DOVE are listening to
DOVE," she said. The station has been carrying
out on-air testing for the last two weeks and
its team consists of Vanessa Clarke, known as
Divine Lady, with "The Morning Show" from 6:00
a.m. to 10:00 a.m.; Hanna with "The Midday
Show;" and Narada Scott, a.k.a. Mighty Mouth,
from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. "I'm very excited to
be a part of this brand new venture," Hanna
said. "I think Dove FM is a station whose time
has come and it's been long overdue for the
people of Grand Bahama. Station website is

Extending
its outreach in Asia, international Christian
media organization TWR has upgraded its powerful
shortwave transmission station on the island of
Guam. The advancement gives TWR the ability to
cover much of the spiritually needy region,
including China and southeast Asia, with a
robust, quality signal. To celebrate TWR
President Lauren Libby and other ministry staff
members will present an on-air dedication during
a live broadcast Friday, November 18 from
8:30-9:00 a.m. ET. The 30-minute broadcast will
begin at 1330 UTC on a shortwave frequency
of 15.4 megahertz in the 19 meter band. “This
upgrade gives TWR the opportunity to touch even
more lives with the good news of Jesus Christ,”
says TWR President Lauren Libby. “We thank God
for the privilege of increasing our spiritual
footprint in Asia.”
Two 250,000-watt, digital-capable Thomson transmitters have been installed to provide increased coverage to the Asia region. These revitalized transmitters join three existing 100,000-watt units. Digital shortwave capability will enable TWR to reach both rural areas and large cities with a strong, FM-like quality signal. TWR is now well-positioned to reach listeners across Asia into the future, and reception is excellent anywhere – from cities to dense forests. Special guests for the dedication broadcast include Dr. Alan Cureton, president of Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minn.; Collin Lambert, vice president of Moody Radio in Chicago, Ill.; and Mike Tirone, general manager and senior vice president of KCBI-FM in Dallas, Texas. These three organizations, plus thousands of individuals around the globe, helped with the purchase and installation of the transmitters. “As Moody Radio continues to expand its global focus, TWR is one of the leading organizations that we are pleased to partner with,” says Lambert. “Our joint efforts tied to the [upgraded] transmitter in Guam have not only broadened our participation in spreading the gospel throughout the world, but also allowed us to inform and mobilize our listeners in the process. In addition to a live stream over www.twr.org, the dedication broadcast will be carried on KTIS-AM, Moody Radio and KCBI and its sister stations. (11/16)

January 1, 2012, New Life Radio-Moscow will
join forces with direct to home satellite broadcast
provider TRICOLOR
Satellite Network, to transmit its 24/7 Christian
programming schedule to major population centers
nationwide. TRICOLOR will give the radio station
a subscriber base of up to an estimated 10
million homes across Russia that tune into the Eutelsat W4 satellite in order to access free
satellite TV and radio. Because of changing
audience preference and media usage, New Life
Radio is positioning itself to be available on
media platforms that provide the largest
potential audience base, and for satellite
radio, TRICOLOR represents the fastest growing
service for Russia, adding millions of
subscribers each year since its inception in
2006. The good news: NLR will be able to lower
its satellite expenses, while increasing the
audio quality of its signal with this change to
TRICOLOR. (11/6)

has made some changes regarding it's membership
requirements. In a press release the CMB stated
"The CMB leadership is appreciative of those
radio stations which have been supportive of its
first years as an organization, but it is also
true that CMB’s strength really comes from the
people within those stations – and from those
within the industry who may not be employed at a
radio station yet share CMB’s passion for its
mission and vision.
CMB membership is open (but not exclusive) to
the following list of individuals: employees of
radio stations and networks, recording labels,
broadcast hardware, software and wireless
companies, and para-church ministries, as well
as individual consultants, promoters, artists
and their managers – in short, any person who
embraces CMB’s mission and vision to better
reach and engage people through Christian music
broadcasting with the goal of ensuring that
Christian music broadcasting’s excellence and
influence is second to none."

WGCA/Quincy
reached its Sharathon fundraising goal last week
when listeners pledged more than $279,000. The
goal had been $275,000. Funds raised through
Sharathon will account for about 60 percent of
WGCA's overall budget. The remaining 40 percent
comes from underwriters, the local businesses
that contribute each year. WGCA PD Jim Taylor
has been with the station since 1997 inception,
said "Some tremendous calls came in," Taylor
said. "One caller told us they found strength
listening to WGCA, and through prayer. It helped
them understand that everything is in God's time

HisAir.Net with more details on their launch of
Hot 95.9. Dean says, "In just 7 days the Hot
95.9 Facebook page has exceeded 1,450 "likes"
and continues to grow at an amazing rate! I
never though that 99 watts could stir up such
passion and excitement so quickly, but isn't
that just like God. Hot 95.9 is forging new
ground with a very carefully assembled library
of Positive Hip Hop and R & B songs designed to
have appeal to the very diverse population that
makes up the Orlando area. As part of the
station's launch we plan to divert some of Z's
billboard inventory to promote Hot 95.9's
arrival into O-Town. With secular Hip Hop and
CHR stations in Orlando capturing over 17 shares
of listening 6+, we are blessed to be able to
offer a positive alternative with the fun and
excitement of Hip Hop/CHR radio without having
to compromise one's beliefs in the process."
