With the addition of seven frequencies, WORSHIP-FM will cover
all four Arbitron® markets in the state, which include Bangor,
ME (#223), Augusta/Waterville, ME (#271), Lewiston/Auburn, ME
(#283) and now Portland, ME (#167, the state’s largest market).
The new Fryeburg, ME station will cover the Southern
Western portion of the state, as well as the Mt. Washington
Valley region in New Hampshire. “We are very excited with this
new opportunity for WORSHIP-FM to reach a whole new area that we
were never able to reach before”, says Ryan Gagne, Operations
Manager. “This will allow the ministry to reach thousands more
with encouraging music & programming that many in Central Maine
now enjoy.” Ryan was promoted from Program Director to
Operations Manager in August 2010. He has served at Worship-FM
for 12 years.
Worship-FM has other construction permits granted by the Federal

WNLR/Churchville,
VA (1150 AM) is building a house in hopes of selling it to raise
money for the station. "The only way we are able to stay on the
air is through donations by Christian people and some
advertising from local businesses. We've been running month to
month," said Bill Garvey, president of New Life Ministries.
Garvey said he worked for a building company for years and knows
the business, believes the station stands to bring in a large
amount of money. "This is a house for Jesus Christ, so we'll let
him take care of the sale," he said. The two-story house when
finished in the fall, will measure 1,800 square feet with three
bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. It sits on 2.3 acres and
is surrounded by farmland. "We just think we can do it really
inexpensively and having it financed by a foundation, it doesn't
put us at any risk," Garvey said, speculating that his ministry
could make between $20,000 and $30,000 after expenses. "We can't
sell enough advertising in one year to generate that kind of
money for the ministry." (8/11)

KVTT-AM/Dallas
(1110 AM) announced today the station will cease operations this
Monday 7/12. The decision was made due to the economic
downturn and of dwindling AM listenership. KVTT has been on the
air 34 years in Dallas-Fort Worth. KVTT was an FM station
for most of its existence but ended its long run at 91.7 FM last
year when its parent company had to sell the 91.7 frequency
because of a huge debt load to North Texas Public Broadcasting
for $18 million.
"We attempted to build an audience for 1110," KVTT general
manager Doug Price says of the noncommercial, listener-supported
station. "But we were unable to build enough of an audience to
get the financial support we needed in sufficient time to keep
us on the air." The station employs six full-time members.

On
Wednesday (7/7) at 7am KHZR/St Louis (Joy FM) is expected move
to a more powerful 100,000-watt signal and a new home at 99.1FM.
The FCC approved an $18 million purchase of KFUO at 99.1
FM from the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to Joy FM. The
99.1 frequency has played classical music since 1975.
Currently JOY broadcast on 2 different frequencies (97.7 &
94.1) with two transmitters (50,000 watts in Potosi, Mo., and
25,000 watts in Bowling Green, Mo). Combined the two reach
a potential audience of just over 500,000, according to Sandi
Brown, KHZR GM and morning co-host. But Wednesday at 7am the new
signal's potential audience rises to 2.7 million.
JOY started in 1981 with a 3,000-watt signal in Columbia,
Ill., with the call letters WCBW-FM. After a move to south St.
Louis County, an increase in signal strength and a name change
to "The Bridge," WCBW's New York-based owner, Continental
Broadcasting Inc., sold the station in 1997 to Jacor
Communications Inc. for $13.2 million. (7/6)

WORQ/Green Bay
(Q90 FM) is canceling its sponsorship of Christian music
festival Lifest because of it's disagreement with keynote
speaker Jim Wallis. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinal reports
that some Wisconsin church pastors notified the organizers of
Lifest about their concerns Wallis, an author and
editor-in-chief of Sojourners magazine, was giving the keynote
speech. Wallis serves on the White House Advisory Council on
Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. His latest book is
"Rediscovering Values: On Wall Street, Main Street, and Your
Street - A Moral Compass for the New Economy."
WORQ GM Mike LeMay says he's supported Lifest since it
started 12 years ago but was troubled by what he said are
Wallis' beliefs on how to combat poverty. "They propose the
church and government working very closely together to help the
poor," LeMay said Wednesday. "We believe that our founding
fathers wisely built a strong wall which doesn't allow the
government to interfere with religious freedom. We're afraid
these sorts of alliances will lead to a slippery slope."
Wallis disputed LeMay's saying he's never encouraged
faith-based organizations to accept government funding and
strongly favors the separation of church and state. He also said
the criticism against him is coming from an extreme right wing
fringe led by cable television hosts like Glenn Beck. "I think
it's absurd. I'm an evangelical Christian in every sense of the
word and I believe in social justice. For a pretty extreme group
of people that's a problem," Wallis said. "There are 2,000
verses in the bible about God's concern for the poor. It's real
extremism to be attacking brothers and sisters in Christ because
you might have a political view."
Lifest is called "Ultimate Party with a Purpose," Lifest
features six stages for music acts and speakers and averages a
daily attendance of 15,000 to 17,000 people. (7/5)
The HCJB

station generator quit working phone calls came in from
listeners expressing their gratitude for the programs and sorrow

generator, and even from police. A police officer called the
station to urge the producers to fix the problems and get back
on the air. The officer claimed that the number of prisoners in
the region had decreased since the station began its broadcasts.

New
Life Radio Moscow, a national Christian radio network in Russia,
went off the air today and stopped broadcasting over their two
satellite radio channels, due to the breakdown of audio codecs
that sends the programming to the Gosteleradio satellite earth
station in Moscow. Immediately, they lost signal from Paris to
Tokyo, and unless they can find funding of at least $10,000 for
a pair of audio codecs, they will stay off the air. The ABS and
Hotbird satellites that NLR broadcasts from has an audience
potential of over 100 million households. New Life Radio
was created as Russia's first Christian FM radio station in
1996, and today provides a Christian presence in nearly every
community across Russia and the former Soviet Union, via their
satellite radio, FM, and Internet channels.
Christian Radio for Russia, the non-profit ministry in the USA
that administers the New Life network has no contingency funding
available to purchase this equipment. "We ask Christians in

Rick
McConnell, founder of Monumental Studios in Denver has announced
the launch of Voice and Production Depot. This is a new low-cost
service for radio stations nationwide billing itself as "your
new production department." Voice and Production Depot
offers access to over 15 professional voice over announcers.
Complete production - including music and sound effects - is
also included. "Most medium and small size stations tell me that
they just get tired of hearing their same station announcers on
every spot," McConnell says. "And they want to lighten their
production load. This answers that concern with some really
affordable prices. Most voice over folks charge maybe $75 to
$100 for one spot and that only gives you access to one guy or
gal's voice. The Depot offers 15 voices to choose from, and you
can get 5 or 6 times that many spots for that price."
Voice and Production Depot has enlisted the skills of seasoned
radio and TV voice over professionals, actors, comedians and
Christian radio veterans. This includes notable names such as
Dave Kirby, Karen Veasy, Tom Carter and Jim Taylor. Rick
McConnell is a 30 year veteran of Christian radio who began
Monumental Studios in 1986 by creating concert tour spots for
Christian music artists. He is most known for the popular radio
imaging package, "The Airshow". For more information on

as another plate of food at the listening buffet," Emert
explained. "We will be offering Fayette listeners a little
more of a mature format. You will hear instrumentals, choir
music and some more modern songs that are rooted in traditional
inspirational music." The programming includes nationally
syndicated news and radio dramas, as well as local disc jockeys
Jim Stewart (mornings) and Pete Chagnon (afternoons). On
Saturday nights, a traditional Southern Gospel Show will pour
over the airwaves. Several local pastors and religious leaders
will host special shows, but Emert is quick to point out that
the station's ministry is strictly non-denominational.

The
FCC has approved the sale of KFUO/St. Louis (a longtime
classical music station) to the owners KHZR/St Louis (Joy
FM) for $18 million. Exactly when the license will be
transferred is not yet known but will happen on a mutually
agreed upon date, said Vicki Biggs, a spokeswoman for sellers
the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Joy FM currently
broadcasts simultaneously on two signals, 97.7-FM and 94.1-FM.
There were numerous objections to the sale. Petitions were filed
by the Radio Arts Foundation and the Lutheran group the
Committee to Save KFUO-FM. Many private individuals also wrote
informally against the sale. Joy FM PD Greg Cassidy adds "They
say timing is everything. It was Wednesday afternoon,
during the first afternoon of Shareathon that JOY-FM received
the call that the FCC had approved the purchase of KFUO in St.
Louis. This will move JOY-FM from the two existing signals
to the 100,000 watt stick at 99.1. The move is expected to
happen in the next 30-45 days. JOY-FM is a totally
listener supported, 24 hour AC".
