The Spirit FM Radio Network owners of KCVO/Camdenton, MO have added a 6th full power station to the network in Salem, Missouri. The station is 40,000 watt KCVX. (3/31)


SOLD! Salem has purchased WQBH AM/Detroit from Queens Broadcasting for $4.75 million... AND EMF (Educational Media Foundation) owners of K-Love have agreed to purchase WTRK/Bay City, MI. The station is currently owned by Bay Media Group. Sale price was $800,000. (3/31)


Paul Van Sickle is upped to MD from weekend personality at KCWJ/Kansas City... Kristen Roberts joins the morning show with Rob Dempsey at WLFJ AM/Greensboro... (3/30)


Salem has purchased WAFS AM/Atlanta from Moody for $16.4 million to add their market cluster including WFSH, WGKA, WNIV, and WLTA. (3/29)


Chris Gilbreth has departed his OM position at KGTS/College Place, WA and Positive Life Radio to enter station ownership. Don Godman wil become Network Operations Mgr. and Elizabeth Nelson joins as PD from WAUS/Berrien Springs, MI. (3/20)

Jay Johnson is the new morning show co-host at at Moody Broadcastings' WKES/Lakeland-Tampa-Orlando. Johnson brings over thirty years of local radio experience and most recently served as Director of Radio Broadcasting for Precept Ministries International. (3/17)

The Mars Hill Network, with flagship station WMHR/Syracuse, has added a forth full power station to its ownership roster. WMHQ 90.1 FM, Malone, NY went on the air recently and broadcasts to the Malone-Massena, Cornwall, Ontario areas. The Mars Hill Network also owns stations broadcasting into  Rochester, NY  and Watertown, NY -Kingston, Ontario... (3/15)

More Changes at EMI CMG. David Caldwell is named Sr. VP/GM while David Johnson (from Forefront) is Director of Label Operations. Brad O'Donnel, formerly Sr. Director of A&R for Sparrow has been named VP of A&R for EMI CMG. Steve Hartley, Brent Milligan, and Chris York will all be Dir. of A&R. In the Promotion Dept Grant Hubbard will serve as VP of National Promotions and Brian Dishon has been named Dir of National Promotions. They were both formerly with Sparrow. (3/11)

Due to a copyright issue with Salem Communications WFSJ/Indiana, PA switches it's on air name from "FISH FM" to "Christian Hit Radio 103.7 The Switch", matching its sister Switch station in Zephyrhills, Florida.  The
website domain of fishfm.com remains the property of Godstock Ministries Inc. according to President Chris Lash. (3/8)

Sad to hear the passing of longtime Christian broadcaster Marlin Maddox at the age of 70. Maddox was host of the daily talk show "Point Of View" and founder of the USA Radio Network. (3/4)


Changes: Scott Miller joins KCBI/Dallas as AM News Producer/Reporter. Miller was News Director for KTFW/Fort Worth and a part-time reporter at WBAP/Dallas... Moody Broadcasting Network (MBN) names Barry Marsh Station Manager at WRMB/West Palm Beach. Marsh has been a WRMB listener since his 1983 conversion from Jehovah's Witnesses, and is a Moody Bible Institute (MBI) alumni.  (3/4)


A total of 34 employees at the Word Label Group were let go this week. The change implemented by Warner Music Groups new owners included four in marketing, three in A&R, one in radio promotions and the elimination of the publicity department. Future publicity at Word will be outsourced. Meanwhile label head Malcolm Mimms, President Barry Landis and Sr. VP/A&R Shawn McSpadden are retained.  (3/2)


Longtime Los Angeles air talent Billy Burke joins KFSH/LA "The Fish" for morning drive. Burke will team with Lauren Kitchens starting Monday March 8th. Ted Ziegenbusch will move to middays while Fish PD Chuck Tyler comes off the air. Burke has previously been with LA stations KIIS, KZLA, and KBIG.  (3/2)

Salem Communications Corporation announces that former Secretary of Education William J. Bennett will host a new, national morning talk radio show on the SRN network beginning Monday, April 5th. "We'll deliver a fast-paced, eye opening national morning show with news, headline-making guests from the worlds of politics, media, sports and entertainment, and we'll open up a dialogue with listeners from coast to coast every morning," Bennett said. The new radio program entitled Bill Bennett's "Morning in America" will be broadcast live from Washington DC every weekday from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. (Eastern)...

Also at Salem, Denise Davis is named to the newly-formed position of director of communications. Davis will be responsible for strategic public relations planning, handling media relations efforts, providing guidance and counsel to the three strategic formats of Salem. Prior to joining Salem, Davis served five years as director of communications and marketing for Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village. (2/27)


Salem fourth quarter net broadcasting revenue increased 12.8% to $45.8 million from $40.6 million in the same period a year ago. The company reported operating income of $10.4 million for the quarter, compared with operating income of $8.7 million for the same quarter in 2002. The company reported net income of $2.1 million for the quarter, or $0.09 per diluted share, compared with a net loss of $0.7 million, or $0.03 loss per diluted share, for the same quarter in 2002. Universal Christian Music Publishing (UCMB) has launched as a Nashville based music division of Universal Music Publishing. UMPG will focus on catalogue acquisition, artist and writer development, and catalogue exploitation for Christian and Gospel Music.  (2/26)


A new label named Waterfront Records has been formed by Hugh Peterson and will be a division of Waterfront Entertainment based in Franklin, TN. The labels focus will be on developing quality concept, compilation and value projects. (2/25)

WLTK/Harrisonburg, VA announces the station will be known as "X 103 The Cross" beginning March 1st. WLTK has been on the air since December 1989 with a Hot AC format. Greg Crabtree is the station PD/MD. (2/23)

Total Axxess with host Cliff Tredway, heard nightly on The Christian Hit Radio Satellite Network, will feature a special show this Tuesday night (2/24) about the "Passion of the Christ" movie. “People are talking about this movie, and we wanted to find out what Christian artists had to say about it,” says Tredway. Several top Christian music artists have been invited to a special Icon-authorized, sneak-preview screening of the Passion of the Christ on Tuesday night, February 24th (the night before the movie releases nation-wide). WAWZ/New York "Star 99.1"  has received several nominations in the New York Metro (AIR) Awards including "Best New York Metro New Jersey Station", "Best Syndicated Show Originating from New York" for Johnny Stones Looking Up To #1, Best Entertainment Interview" for Stones interview with John Tesh, And Mid-day host Beth Bacall was nominated in the "Best Midday Show" category. WAY-FM/Denver has hired “Maverick” as their Morning Drive Personality The station is scheduled to sign-on March 11, 2004.  Maverick was formerly Assistant PD/MD with MIX 95.5 (KNEV) Reno, Nevada.  Maverick had this to say about joining WAY-FM:  “I am very excited about moving to Denver, to be a part of the WAY-FM team.
