WAY-FM
Media Group has promoted Dusty Rhodes from VP/Radio to chief
operating officer.
President Bob Augsburg said, "Dusty's broad oversight
in all facets of our nonprofit organization warrants this
change. He is assuming more responsibilites in other areas
of WAY-FM Media Group beyond our owned-and-operated radio
stations, including CHRSN, TheXStation.COM, our website
www.wayfm.com, and overall brand management, which warrants
this change in functinal title to COO. Dusty recently
celebrated nine years with WAY-FM, orginally joining us in
1993 to launch and manage WAYF-FM West Palm Beach. I am very
grateful to have a man of this caliber and integrity on our
senior management team." (4/12)
The
Radio Training
Network (RTN) recently helped raise over $124,000 for prison
radio station KLSP in
Angola, LA. KLSP is the nations only prison radio station. RTN is operated by
His Radio
Network. RTN
conducted the three-hour remote from the station’s studios,
which happens to be inside Angola Prison, as a fundraiser
gift from the network. RTN stations include Heritage Station
WLFJ and the 23 frequencies throughout the Carolinas and
Georgia that make up the His Radio Network, WJIS in Sarasota
and the stations throughout Florida that make up the Joy FM
Network, WAFJ in Augusta Georgia, KWND in Springfield
Missouri and their sister commercial station in Atlanta,
J93.3. Combined, the listenership of the stations is
approaching 600,000.
“Most people in our industry haven’t heard of Radio Training
Network because we go by so many names. The stations that
make up this network are some of the most respected in the
nation.” Said Ken Mayfield, Director of Network Operations
for the His Radio Network. “Many of the men who run the
station (KLSP), are Ordained Ministers. They take prayer
requests, play lots of Gospel music and encourage the men,
100 of which are on Death Row.” Said Mayfield. “How could
you know of a need so great and not respond. We did, our
listeners did and most importantly, God honored the project
and blessed the whole day.”
The money will go toward a new transmitter and studio
equipment for the station. RTN also has plans to install
equipment so that the prison’s chapel services can be
carried live over the station. (4/12)

The
CCM Update and Radio & Records ink a two-year Strategic
Alliance; The CCM Update Discontinues Christian Airplay Charts.
"Salem Communications, the parent company of CCM Communications
and The CCM Update, is the largest owner of contemporary
Christian radio stations in the country," explained Salem
Communications Non-Broadcast Division President Jim Cumbee. "It
became obvious that it is not appropriate for one division of a
company to be tracking and publishing airplay reports when so
many of the stations affecting the reports are owned by the
company that is doing the tracking and publishing," he said.
Salem Communications
Corporation is a publicly traded company that owns more than 80
radio stations with over 1,500 affiliates. Salem's Non-Broadcast
Division includes publishing, Internet, and software operation.
